On a gray Tuesday, Leo found a green bottle wedged between two rocks. Inside was a note, dated June 4, 1987, written in careful blue ink: "Whoever finds this, please write back. I want to know how far the sea can carry a wish." There was an address in Lisbon. Leo wrote a long letter that same night. Three weeks later a reply arrived, from a woman named Inês, who had waited thirty-nine years for an answer.
