10 key typing test

Test your numeric keypad speed the way data entry employers do: type each number, press Enter, and get your keystrokes per hour (KPH) and accuracy.

About the 10 key test

The 10 key test measures how fast you enter numbers on the numeric keypad, the block of keys on the right of a full-size keyboard. It is common for accounting, banking, billing and data entry jobs.

What is KPH?

Keystrokes per hour counts every digit and Enter press, scaled to an hour. Net KPH only counts entries you typed correctly, which is the number employers usually ask for.

What score do jobs want?

Many data entry roles list 8,000 to 10,000 net KPH as a minimum. Above 12,000 KPH with high accuracy is considered excellent.

Home position

Rest your index finger on 4, middle finger on 5 (the key with a bump) and ring finger on 6. Your thumb presses 0 and your little finger presses Enter.

No number pad?

Switch to Number row mode to practise the digits above the letters, which is what laptops without a keypad use.
