Typing test · check your typing speed

About this free typing test

This online typing test works as a WPM checker and keyboarding test in one. Start typing and the timer begins. When it ends you get your net words per minute, accuracy, raw speed and a second-by-second chart that shows where you slowed down or made mistakes.

How WPM is measured

One word equals five characters including spaces. Net WPM counts only correctly typed characters, so mistakes lower your score. Raw WPM counts every keystroke.

What is a good typing speed?

Around 40 wpm is average. 50 to 70 wpm is good, 70 to 90 is fast, and above 100 wpm is professional level. See the full average typing speed chart.

Consistency

Consistency shows how steady your speed was from second to second. Smooth typists with high consistency improve faster and make fewer errors.

Test modes

Choose a time limit or a word count, and add punctuation or numbers to make the test closer to real writing.

Questions people ask

Which test length should I use?

+

The 1 minute typing test is the standard for comparing speeds. 15 and 30 seconds are quick warmups; 3 and 5 minute tests match what employers use and measure endurance.

Why is my test score lower than my practice speed?

+

Tests count mistakes against you and add time pressure. Focus on accuracy first and your test score will follow.

Is my result saved?

+

Yes. Results are saved in your browser and shown on the Progress page with your trend over time.
